What is an I-94?
An arrival/departure record by CBP. Records the class of admission and authorized stay (Admit Until Date or D/S).
Where do I look up an I-94?
On i94.cbp.dhs.gov. i-94.org does not run a lookup; convenience tools live on i94.io.

Visa vs I-94
Is a valid visa the same as a valid I-94?
No. Visa is for entry; I-94 records authorized stay after entry.
Visa expired but I-94 still valid — can I stay?
Generally yes for current stay. Re-entry would require a new visa. Facts can change the answer.
Admit Until Date
What does Admit Until Date mean?
Last day of authorized stay on this admission. Many categories require depart / EOS / COS by that date.
Why is mine D/S?
D/S means you can stay while you keep meeting status conditions. Common for F, J, I. Rules currently evolving.
Class of Admission
Which field is COA?
Short codes like B2, F1, H1B, L2 on the I-94. Controls allowed activities and extension paths.
Always matches my visa category?
Usually, but CBP has discretion — check the I-94 after entry.
D/S
What is D/S?
Duration of Status. Stay is conditional on meeting status conditions, not a fixed date.
Will the D/S rule change?
It is in a high-volatility window. Rely on the Federal Register / DHS / ICE / USCIS for current text.
Expiration risk
Does crossing the date instantly cause unlawful presence?
Not automatically. Out-of-status and unlawful presence are distinct concepts with category-specific rules.
Does cap-gap apply to me?
Only to specific F-1 to H-1B scenarios. It does not extend B-2, H-4, L-2, or other categories.
